This National Science Foundation (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Program grant awarded to Swarthmore College provides $173,053 to systematically document and devise solutions to mitigate harms from deepfake imagery, particularly for underserved communities. The 2-year research project will take an innovative, community-centric approach to augmenting cybersecurity and privacy in the face of advanced generative AI technologies. The project will collaborate closely with Black and Asian immigrant/diaspora communities in the Philadelphia area to build a scalable platform that encourages and supports community-level cybersecurity practices. The findings aim to inform government and technology policy to address the needs of underserved groups and guide the responsible development of generative AI tools. No sub-awards are planned under this grant.
