The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Environmental Biology awarded a $912,952 Project Grant under the Biological Sciences grant program (CFDA 47.074) to the Regents of the University of Michigan to conduct research on the diversity, distribution, and resilience of North American plants. The primary objectives are to: 1) Assemble detailed historical and current data on trait diversity and endemism of North American plants to understand the long-term eco-evolutionary drivers of continental biodiversity patterns; 2) Examine recent distributional trends for a comprehensive set of plant species to identify traits linked to resilience in the face of climate and land use change; and 3) Use these insights to forecast changes in plant diversity and inform conservation prioritization. This large-scale, collaborative research project aims to provide critical knowledge about the resilience of North American plant communities in the face of rapid global change. The award period is from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2026.
