This National Science Foundation (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) $1,000,000 project grant award to North Carolina State University aims to advance the understanding of quantum materials and establish a design space for room-temperature superfluorescent quantum emitters. The research program brings together four teams with expertise in material synthesis, quantum property characterization, first principles theory, and computational materials simulations to investigate superfluorescence in a range of hybrid metal halide perovskite materials. The project seeks to produce reusable data relating the characteristics of superfluorescence, such as critical temperature, threshold excitation density, color tunability, and spatial/temporal coherence, to the underlying material properties. This research may enable superfluorescence to be utilized as a quantum optical effect in photonic devices. The award runs from October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2027 and does not involve any planned sub-awards.
