This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Division of Environmental Biology (CFDA 47.074 - Biological Sciences) provides $200,249 to the University of Georgia Research Foundation (UGA Research Foundation) from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2026.
The funding will support the development of a new seafloor sensor/sampler array and advanced control systems to better understand how tidal pumping and subsurface currents influence seafloor oxygenation and sedimentary carbon cycling. The project will utilize machine learning models to enhance remote deployment, minimize power consumption, and optimize sample collection. Additionally, the project will provide mentoring and field opportunities for high-school and college students, as well as produce a documentary about careers in marine science.
