The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $151,643 Project Grant under its Integrative Activities program (CFDA 47.083) to the West Virginia University Research Corporation. The 3-year grant, starting on September 1, 2023, will fund a research project to create a more complete catalog of supernova remnants in the Milky Way galaxy. The project will leverage new observational data from radio telescopes like the VLA and MeerKAT to identify previously undiscovered supernova remnants, with the goal of doubling the known population. The research will also support a public outreach program called the "West Virginia SPOT" to educate K-12 students about supernova remnants. This grant reflects NSF's mission to enhance the competitiveness of the nation's research capacity and broaden participation in STEM fields.
