This Project Grant award, totaling $750,000, was provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Integrative Activities under the Integrative Activities program (CFDA 47.083). The award will fund research at Howard University from August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2026 to develop new energy management algorithms and scheduling frameworks for fault-tolerant real-time embedded systems (RTES). The goal is to reduce energy consumption while satisfying fault tolerance and quality of service requirements for RTES, which are pervasive in modern devices like smartphones, vehicles, and aircraft. The project aims to (1) create novel energy management schemes for fault-tolerant RTES, (2) develop scheduling algorithms to maximize RTES feasibility under tight energy budgets, and (3) extend the scheduling framework to many-core platforms. This research is expected to significantly improve the energy efficiency and reliability of RTES, while also providing hands-on research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. No subawards are planned for this grant.
