This $152,309 National Science Foundation project grant will support the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site: How Robustness and Resilience in Response to Biotic and Abiotic Stressors Shape Biological Processes at the University of California, Berkeley. Through the Biological Sciences program, the grant will fund research training for 12 undergraduate students from groups underrepresented in science or with limited research opportunities. For 10 weeks in summer 2023, students will conduct mentored research projects focusing on organismal resilience and robustness in response to biotic and abiotic stress, and how these shape biological processes. Students will learn research skills, apply to graduate programs, and may present their findings at conferences. The program aims to benefit both students and faculty mentors. Assessment will track career outcomes to measure the program's longer-term impact.
