This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Computer and Information Science and Engineering program totaling $900,000 will support the development of an open-source autonomous driving simulation platform called MetaDriverse. The Regents of the University of California, Berkeley will use the three-year award beginning March 2023 to create an interactive simulation environment featuring realistic visuals and real-world traffic scenarios. MetaDriverse aims to serve as a research infrastructure facilitating work in fields like computer vision, graphics, machine learning and human-computer interaction related to autonomous vehicles. The platform will allow researchers and industry to develop and benchmark new AI methods for perception, decision-making and other aspects of self-driving. It also seeks to provide teaching tools to promote STEM education.
