This $297,801 National Science Foundation project grant will support the San Francisco State University in expanding its Science, Technology, and Society Hub to establish a research community focused on cross-campus collaboration between social science and STEM faculty and graduate students. Over three years, the Hub will seed interdisciplinary research programs centered on social and environmental justice themes like the COVID-19 pandemic, alternative energy, and automation/artificial intelligence. It will provide training to graduate students in responsible research conduct and ethics while enriching curricula. Annually, the Hub will host workshops, fellow meetings, and an annual conference to engage faculty and students in collaborative research and training. Findings on this model for incubating socially responsible science, technology, and social justice projects at a minority-serving institution will be published. This award advances the National Science Foundation's Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences program by building research capacity at San Francisco State University.
