This National Science Foundation Project Grant award of $2,999,886 provides funding from August 15, 2022 through July 31, 2026 to support the RAMP collaborative research training program at the University of Connecticut. The program will recruit 30 postbaccalaureate trainees, with a focus on underrepresented groups, to engage in genomic research projects and develop skills in molecular and computational biology. Trainees will participate in both cohort-based genome sequencing and annotation of understudied species, as well as individual research projects characterizing the function of novel genomic elements in diverse taxa. The goal is to further understanding of how genetic differences lead to unique phenotypic outcomes. In addition to research, the program incorporates training workshops, professional development, mentoring networks, and outreach to help trainees advance in STEM careers. This award supports the Biological Sciences program's goal of increasing biological knowledge and enhancing understanding of major problems through basic research.
