Lake Superior State University received a $197,808 National Science Foundation Project Grant under the Integrative Activities program to support the acquisition of a scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy capabilities. The microscope and its analytical functions will be used by 12 university faculty members and their collaborators across scientific disciplines to advance research in areas such as freshwater ecology, atmospheric pollution impacts, forensic science, phytoremediation, and geoscience. It will also enhance undergraduate education and research training through new coursework and research opportunities in microscopy and microanalysis. Outreach efforts include a K-12 program providing hands-on STEM experiences to promote workforce development. The award period is from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2025.
