This two-year project grant will support the creation of a scalable, elastic, low-latency data storage framework to enable interdisciplinary big data research across materials science, particle physics, environmental science, medicine, and health...
- The University of Montana has been awarded a $499,047 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Office of Integrative Activities (CFDA 47.083) to acquire and provision a flexible, cost-effective, tiered data storage system. This storage system will increase the university's overall storage capacity to 5.3PB and improve performance and researcher usability, supporting project-driven needs identified by UM researchers across various disciplines, including forestry, ecology,...
- This Project Grant award of $500,000 from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Federal Grant Program (CFDA 47.070) supports the development of scalable software to enable "data polymorphism" - a novel paradigm for fast and adaptable scientific data retrieval with reduced data movement costs. The project aims to bridge the gap between the vast amounts of data generated by scientific simulations/instruments and the limited...
- This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Computer and Network Systems, under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering program (CFDA 47.070), provides $246,388 to the University of Washington to develop cross-layer file systems that span multiple storage technologies including non-volatile memories, solid-state disks, and traditional disk storage. The university researchers will build file storage systems able to reliably store user data at high...
- This $300,000 Project Grant was awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) program. The grant aims to develop and optimize a log-structured-merge tree-based key-value storage system, called Decoupled-LSM, for use in disaggregated cloud infrastructure environments. The research will address challenges such as network traffic, memory limitations, and transient errors in these environments. The goal is to redesign the...
- The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $489,239 Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Program grant to The Pennsylvania State University, doing business as Penn State, to develop cost-effective, high-throughput data storage solutions to support scientific research across disciplines including physics, astronomy, biology, and materials science. The 2-year project, titled "CC* DATA STORAGE: COST-EFFECTIVE ATTACHED STORAGE FOR HIGH THROUGHPUT COMPUTING USING...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary The National Science Foundation's Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure awarded $479,358 to Kennesaw State University Research and Service Foundation on December 1, 2025, under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering program (CFDA 47.070) to develop computational storage virtualization technologies for high-performance computing (HPC) systems. The collaborative research initiative will create a virtual computational storage system compatible with...
- This Project Grant award of $289,136.00 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program supports the development of a scalable and extensible I/O runtime and tools for next-generation adaptive data layouts. The research aims to create a comprehensive data management solution that can address the data movement challenges posed by exascale computing. Key deliverables include: A scalable and tunable parallel I/O runtime that enables...
- The National Science Foundation Office of Integrative Activities awarded the University of Delaware a $443,455 Project Grant under the Integrative Activities program (CFDA 47.083) to build a research data storage and management platform. The university is acquiring two 1.6 PB Open Storage Network (OSN) storage pods and co-locating data service nodes to provide a scalable, shareable, and extensible data storage system for collaborative data-intensive research. This platform will enable research...
This $599,261 National Science Foundation Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure Project Grant supports the development of the Kingfisher framework's LotManager library to enable shared storage management across distributed computing resources. Specifically, the Morgridge Institute for Research will develop the first element of the Kingfisher framework to facilitate sharing of finite storage capacity across users and projects through July 2025. They will architect the storage management component in the context of the broader Kingfisher framework and integrate it with high-throughput computing applications. Additionally, under subaward the University of Wisconsin-Madison will support integration of the LotManager library with widely adopted distributed software tools including the HTCondor suite and XRootD framework used by the Open Science Grid consortium to provide data delivery to the national science and engineering community. This work aims to advance distributed high-performance computing for data-intensive applications by enabling effective federation of storage capacity.
