The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $300,000 Project Grant under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) program to the Regents of the University of Minnesota to develop and optimize a decoupled log-structured-merge tree-based key-value store (Decoupled-LSM) for disaggregated cloud infrastructure environments. The project, titled "COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH: CSR:SMALL: DECOUPLED-LSM: A DECOUPLED LOG-STRUCTURED-MERGE TREE-BASED KEY-VALUE STORE OVER THE DISAGGREGATED INFRASTRUCTURE," aims to address limitations of existing LSM-KVS systems in cloud, AI, ML, and scientific computing applications by redesigning the architecture to achieve higher performance, better resource utilization, and improved management. The grant, with a performance period from Sep 1, 2024 to Aug 31, 2027, will fund the development of new techniques to decouple data-intensive modules from the LSM-KVS control, enabling efficient execution across disaggregated resource pools.
