Virginia State University will receive $2,288,436 over three years from the National Science Foundation under the Integrative Activities program (CFDA 47.083) to conduct research on genomic characterization of seed filling and nutritional features in edamame and mature soybeans. The university will elucidate the biological and genomic features of seed filling and nutritional composition in edamame and mature soybeans. Researchers will identify genomic variants and candidate genes associated with target traits using rapid evaluation and genetic analysis techniques. In addition to publishing results, the project aims to train postdoctoral researchers and students, develop STEM education resources, and increase public scientific literacy and engagement through stakeholder showcasing. Findings will benefit related research in grain crops, vegetables and fruits.
