Description
This is accomplished by the residents of martin county sharing their time, talents and resources. Uwmc has streamlined its focus to the three major areas of education, health and financial stability. We recognize that volunteering is vital to a vibrant community by fostering civic responsibility and have made IT a major component of our business strategy. Since 1979, uwmc has provided meaningful volunteer opportunities for our seniors through the sponsorship of rsvp. An estimated 600 rsvp volunteers will serve rsvp in FY 2021-2023. Of this number, 99 rsvp volunteers will be placed in outcome assignments. Some of the activities will include measurable results-oriented activities including support that contributes to school readiness, delivering nutritiously balanced meals to homebound or older adults and individuals with disabilities to live independently, improving the reading levels of children through a structured literacy program that improves academic performance, providing and assisting in disaster preparedness, and utilizing trained senior corps rsvp volunteers to support disadvantaged individuals with tax preparation services. The primary focus area of this project is education. At the end of the three-year grant, forty rsvp volunteers will tutor third grade students who are economically disadvantaged and reading at below grade level, eight rsvp volunteers will provide classroom support in VPK classes, thirty rsvp volunteers will deliver nutritious meals to home bound seniors to allow them to live independently in their homes, ten rsvp volunteers will assist in disaster preparedness, and eleven rsvp volunteers will provide tax preparation service to economically disadvantaged people. Five hundred and one volunteers will address other community needs. The cncs federal investment of $98,844 will be supplemented by $32,948 of non-federal resources.
