Description

Is the administrator of the story city senior center (managing activities and facilities) and the sponsor for central iowa rsvp. Scsc, INC. Began as an rsvp grantee in 1973, serving story county and expanding to serve marshall county in 2003. More recently (2012), scsc, INC. Approved the expansion of central iowa rsvp to also include hamilton and webster counties, each representing two former projects that relinquished their rsvp grants in 2011. Story city senior citizens, INC. Was also awarded state funding in july, 2012 to restore services to this geographic area. This summary outlines plans for continued service and sponsorship of central iowa rsvp. An estimated 760 rsvp volunteers will serve in a variety of assignments in these four counties. Cirsvp is broad in its scope of services but will continue education as its primary focus area beginning in july, 2021. Although cirsvp has two signature programs that will continue to engage rsvp volunteers in meeting needs in the areas of healthy futures: 1. Volunteer driver transportation program (engaging 40 rsvp volunteer drivers providing residents with safe and reliable transportation to medical appointments and other essential services); 2. Base senior fitness program (bone builders model offering area senior citizens an opportunity to improve their physical and mental well-being through low-impact fitness instruction by trained rsvp volunteers). Unfortunately, due to a change in the cncs disaster focus area performance measurements, our disaster services work plan (volunteer management for disaster, public safety and public health) has to be transitioned to other community priorities. No disaster services performance measurement will fit preparation for a volunteer reception center/phone bank work plan unless we anticipate a disaster activation. The largest number of volunteers will continue in assignments that address school readiness and k-12 success. Through a variety of school-based and summer enrichment assignments including: elementary reading mentors, head literacy partners writing project, and speak up! (public speaking course), we anticipate engaging 324 UN-duplicated volunteers in assisting 700 students/children (by year 3) with increasing academic performance by the end of the three-year grant. The corporation for national & community service federal investment of $172,998 will be supplemented by an anticipated $172,718 in non-federal resources and $4,207 from excess resources in year 1.
