Description

The fccoa sponsors rsvp of fulton county, and both organizations are based out of the community center in rochester. Fccoa & rsvp both work to provide programs and services that support our community members, both young and old, so that longer independent living is achieved, and the lives of those in our community who are disabled or who are living at/below the poverty level are enriched. As our community center grows, we strive to boost our current activities, as well as add extra activities and services to meet the needs of our expanding and aging community. The goal of rsvp is to match individuals and organizations in need of help with volunteers who have skills and talents and a desire to assist those in our community. Stronger social ties are felt by both the volunteer and the recipient, which leads to positive changes in our community. An estimated 231 rsvp volunteers will serve. Of this number, 116 rsvp volunteers will be placed in outcome assignments. Some of their activities will include helping to build a new home, distributing food from food pantries, preparing tax returns, providing free or low-cost health care, and assisting with intake of recyclable materials at the local recycling center. The primary focus area of this project is healthy futures, and rsvp volunteers will work at stations such as county food pantries, woodlawn hospital meals on wheels, matthew's market, united ministries christmas baskets program, and free meal @ grace to address food insecurity. At the end of the three-year grant, we anticipate the following outcomes: increased satisfaction of senior citizens who can stay in their homes longer & enjoy independent living due to access to nutritious food. And an increase in satisfaction of food pantry recipients who have families/children at home and are able to provide for their families. The cncs federal investment of $50,000 will be supplemented by $15,000 in anticipated non-federal resources, including in-kind, fundraising, donations, and united way support.
