The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service awarded Wilson's Meats LLC $200,000 under the Meat and Poultry Inspection Readiness Grants – Supplemental Funding program (CFDA 10.180) on September 30, 2021. The funding will support Wilson's Meats in Traverse City, Michigan to modernize its meat processing equipment, expand food safety protocols, and improve packaging and labeling capabilities. These upgrades aim to double the company's annual meat production output to better meet local consumer and producer demand. Specific activities include procuring new processing machinery, replacing production supplies, and purchasing equipment parts to minimize downtime. The funding is also intended to create dedicated production lines and add four new employees through training of current staff. The goal of the project grant is to allow Wilson's Meats to efficiently increase its meat tonnage processing and expand offerings to customers and partners in rural northern Michigan.
