Cozat Packing Inc. received a $199,618.74 Project Grant award from the US Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service under the Meat and Poultry Inspection Readiness Grants – Supplemental Funding program (CFDA 10.180). The grant funds will support Cozat Packing's objectives to expand current operations and increase capacity and productivity at its meat processing facility in Coleman, Michigan. Specifically, the company will use the award to increase freezer and cooler capacity, update outdated equipment like grinders and packagers, install an electrical phase converter and expand its blood pit to remain code compliant. Grant funds will also replace the leaking slaughter room roof and implement a new POS software system to boost productivity and record keeping. By upgrading its aging plant, Cozat Packing aims to serve more farmers and local families through increased custom meat processing, fulfilling the program's goal of assisting rural slaughter and processing facilities.
