The West Virginia Farmers Market Association, Inc. was awarded a $435,468.70 Project Grant from the US Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service under the Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program (FMLFPP) to provide technical assistance and business development services to farmers markets and agricultural businesses in West Virginia from September 30, 2021 through September 29, 2024.
Specifically, the Association will deliver a series of workshops and one-on-one coaching to help participants strengthen their marketing strategies, introduce new product lines and value-added items, and better understand food safety labeling requirements. The goal is to increase revenue for small businesses and establish a consistent food safety message for entrepreneurs. Additionally, the Association will provide ongoing technical assistance through an established service for agriculture businesses seeking to develop marketing plans and navigate labeling rules. This funding aims to rebuild and strengthen rural economies in West Virginia by expanding local food systems and access to safe, locally grown products.
