The National Science Foundation Division of Polar Programs awarded Dartmouth College a $444,932 two-year Project Grant under the Polar Programs federal grant program (CFDA 47.078). The grant will support collaborative research entitled "Collaborative Research: Spatiotemporal Variability of Solar Radiation Partitioning in the Sea Ice System: Improving Climate Models Using Observations from the MOSAIC Field Campaign." Through December 2024, Dartmouth researchers will analyze observations collected during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate field campaign to advance understanding of how solar radiation interacts with the sea ice system. Insights gained from this research aim to improve the representation of key Arctic processes in climate models. The Polar Programs grant program supports basic research in the polar regions to strengthen the national scientific enterprise and increase fundamental knowledge of the Arctic and Antarctic.
