The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) received a $302,515 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation Division of Polar Programs on October 1, 2021 to support research titled "Organic Matter Export, Processes, and Transformations Drive Carbon Cycling Patterns in the Arctic Ocean." The two-year award will fund LUMCON's work under the NSF Polar Programs, which aims to strengthen fundamental understanding of the polar regions through basic research best conducted in or related to the Arctic and Antarctic. Specifically, the grant will support LUMCON's efforts to study how organic matter export, processes, and transformations influence carbon cycling patterns in the Arctic Ocean. Key products and services will include research and analysis of these processes and their role in driving carbon cycling in the Arctic environment. Findings from LUMCON's NSF-funded project have the potential to enhance scientific knowledge of polar regions and climate change factors.
