This two-year Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Integrative Organismal Systems provides $149,951 to the University of Utah for research titled "COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH: EAGER: CHARACTERIZING A NOVEL TURBULENCE-GENERATING SYSTEM TO FACILITATE EXPLORATION OF INSECT ORIENTATION BEHAVIOR UNDER REAL-WORLD CONDITIONS." The research is part of NSF's Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074), which supports basic research to advance understanding of major problems in biology. Specifically, the University of Utah will characterize a new turbulence-generating system to study how insects orient themselves in real-world turbulent environments. Insights from this research could further biological understanding of insect navigation behaviors. The Project Grant period spans August 1, 2021 through July 31, 2023.
