The University of Rhode Island received a $250,644 National Science Foundation Project Grant under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) for research titled "ADVANCES IN UNDERSTANDING THE BIOGEOCHEMICAL EVOLUTION OF SERPENTINITES (AUBES)" from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2024. The Geosciences program seeks to expand fundamental knowledge of the integrated Earth system through basic research in atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences. Under this award, URI researchers in Kingston, Rhode Island will conduct basic research to advance understanding of the biogeochemical evolution of serpentinites, a class of ultramafic rocks formed through hydrothermal alteration. The three-year project funding of $250,644 will support URI's investigation into these geological processes.
