The University of California, San Diego will receive $1.5 million over five years from the National Science Foundation under its Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074) to conduct a project titled "CHEMOENZYMATIC CONSTRUCTION OF A PROGRAMMABLE SYNTHETIC ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM." From August 2021 through July 2026, UCSD researchers will work to develop new techniques for engineering the endoplasmic reticulum, a cellular organelle, using enzymatic and chemical methods. The Biological Sciences program aims to advance fundamental knowledge in life sciences and strengthen the national research enterprise, consistent with the goals of this project to engineer new synthetic biological systems.
