Coastal Carolina University was awarded a $662,905 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Environmental Biology to develop and apply genomic resources for ascidian taxonomy and holobiont evolution from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024.
The grant funding will support Coastal Carolina University's work under the Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074) to advance the progress of the biological sciences. Specifically, the university will utilize the three-year award to promote scientific knowledge and understanding of major problems by creating genomic resources to study the taxonomy of ascidians, also known as sea squirts, and evolution of the symbiotic communities known as holobionts that they form with other organisms.
