The University of Michigan was awarded a $986,380 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Computer and Network Systems under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering federal grant program (CFDA 47.070).
The grant will support research from October 2021 through September 2024 on developing a learning-aided integrated control and semantic perception architecture to enable legged robot locomotion and navigation in unstructured outdoor environments. The project aims to advance technologies for robotic mobility through machine learning approaches that integrate perception, control and semantic understanding of robot surroundings. Research activities will take place in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The grant funding will allow investigators at the University of Michigan to conduct computer and information science and engineering research in line with the goals of the NSF program to enable and accelerate discovery and innovation in computing fields.
