The National Science Foundation awarded a $200,000 Project Grant to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022 under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering program.
The grant supports research to develop decentralization and privacy technologies for secure vaccination coordination. Specifically, MIT will work on advancing the development of research cyberinfrastructure to enable and accelerate discovery and innovation in computing, communications, and information science related to coordinating vaccination efforts while protecting individual privacy through decentralized approaches. The focus is on providing technical solutions to help coordinate vaccination programs amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in a manner that does not compromise privacy.
