The National Science Foundation awarded a $138,000 Project Grant to support postdoctoral research on mechanisms of ammonia-rich, low density fluid formation in deep-sea squid and impacts of ocean acidification. The award period is from March 1, 2022 through February 29, 2024. The research will be conducted under the NSF's Biological Sciences program (CFDA #47.074), which aims to promote progress in the biological sciences and strengthen the nation's scientific enterprise through increased knowledge and understanding of major problems. Specifically, this fellowship will fund research at the University of Toronto, Canada exploring neutral buoyancy in deep-sea squid and the impacts of ocean acidification on ammonia-rich fluid production, with the goal of advancing scientific knowledge of these biological mechanisms and environmental issues.
