Description

Out of these volunteers, 150 rsvp volunteers will be placed in outcome assignments. Some of their activities will include: disaster preparation for older adults and companionship for reducing social isolation among isolated seniors in nevada county. The primary focus areas of this project are: disaster services and aging in place. At the end of the three-year grant, focus area healthy future will meet the objective of aging in place by serving individuals with companionship, nutrition and food support to increase their social support and improve capacity for independent living H4A, H9A, and H12. In addition, the focus area of disaster services will meet objective D5 of increasing the number of individuals reporting disaster readiness. The cncs federal investment of $82,500 will be supplemented by matching contributions of $41,999 in anticipated level of non-federal cash contribution. The purpose of this project is to address two unmet needs for nevada county older adults: disaster services and aging in place. This project proposes to address these needs by (1) providing disaster preparation education ; (2) providing companionship to reduce social isolation among homebound vulnerable seniors and 3) increase food security. Through this proposed project, we plan to significantly increase our community resiliency through disaster preparation. In addition, seniors who are homebound, isolated, low income and without adequate resources will significantly benefit of volunteers providing companionship to ease loneliness and social isolation to continue to age in place in the community.
