About this award

Lilu Inc. received a $276,000 Small Business Innovation Research Phase I Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Industrial Innovation's Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) to develop a sensor-based bra that measures breast milk output and monitors changes in breast volume before and after breastfeeding or breast pumping. The NSF grant will support Lilu Inc.'s work from May 2021 through November 2021 to create a wearable technology solution that objectively tracks the impact of breastfeeding and milk expression over time. Phase I grants are intended to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of the proposed technology or product. If successful in meeting Phase I objectives, Lilu Inc. may apply for NSF Phase II funding to further develop the sensor-based bra for commercialization.
