The University of Arkansas was awarded a $970,146 project grant from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA) under the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) competitive grants program (CFDA 10.310). The four-year grant will support the Division of Agriculture of the University of Arkansas' "Integrated, Multimedia Approach to Delivering Food, Exercise, and Nutrition Education for Prevention of Chronic Disease" (DFEND) project. DFEND aims to improve health literacy related to nutrition and physical activity for adults at risk of chronic disease through innovative research, extension, and educational programming. It will develop resources and outreach strategies to increase knowledge of healthy eating patterns, lifestyle changes, and behaviors that prevent chronic diseases. The project also seeks to ensure nutrition, exercise science, and healthcare professionals are equipped to meaningfully address chronic disease burdens throughout their careers.
