Description

Awards issued prior to january 20, 2025, were funded under previous administrations and may not reflect the priorities and policies of the current administration.** african swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and fatal disease of domestic and wild pigs caused by the ASF virus (asfv). Recent reports of ASF cases in the dominican republic and haiti pose a substantial threat to the U.S. Swine industry. Currently, there are no commercial vaccines available to prevent and control ASF. Considering the vaccine-safety and -efficacy studies, virally vectored subunit ASF vaccines might be our best option at this time in the proposed research, our primary goal is to construct and test the protective efficacy of three different versions of a novel PRV quadruple mutant virus (prvqmv) vectored subunit ASF vaccines. If successful, the outcome would be a safer and effective ASF vaccine candidate for potential use in countries dealing with ASF problems as well as an emergency vaccine in ASF-free countries in case of an emerging outbreak.
