Tiami LLC was awarded a $125,000 Project Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture to develop a repeater coordination method for expanding rural broadband access.
Under the award, Tiami will design and evaluate a compact wireless repeater system that translates 5G mobile network frequencies to TV white space to effectively double the transmission range of TVWS networks in a cost-effective manner. The Phase I study period, from July 2023 through February 2024, will involve identifying the optimal radio carrier frequency and bandwidth for the system. Tiami will also conduct a performance evaluation of expected data rates and coverage areas for different rural radio propagation profiles. System size, weight, and power requirements will be characterized as well. No subawards are planned under this assistance agreement. The award aims to advance the Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer programs' goals of stimulating technological innovation to strengthen the national economy.
