The Tri-County Agricultural Cooperative was awarded a $763,800 Project Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture under the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program to provide outreach, training, and technical assistance to socially disadvantaged and veteran farmers and ranchers in six Mississippi Delta counties. Over three years, Tri-County and its collaborators will deliver educational and hands-on training activities to at least 250 farmers, with 10% of funds allocated for veteran farmers. Key objectives include enhancing knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, farm management and record keeping skills, and confidence engaging with USDA and other agency programs. If achieved, 70% of participants are expected to improve their farming operations and income generation capabilities. The grant aims to support the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program's goal of helping new and beginning farmers and ranchers succeed in agriculture.
