Description
An estimated 400 volunteers will serve the TRI-county area. In healthy futures, 120 volunteers will be working in outcome-based assignments with homebound individuals and their families by providing transportation, companionship, respite, and food delivery to improve social support, as well as nutritional and health status. An additional 80 volunteers will work in health care and other systems by providing information and support in medical settings and organizing and distributing food at the local food pantries to increase food security. Twenty volunteers will provide housing assistance in building or repairing homes for low-income people living in shelters or sub-standard housing in the area of economic opportunity. Lansing was designated as one of three sites in michigan to have a freedom center that serves veterans and military families before deployment. Over 40 rsvp volunteers provide hospitality services to over 24,000 people going through the freedom center in lansing each year. One of the most valuable resources is the TRI-county area river walk; 50 volunteers will serve on the 13 miles of the river walk trail to monitor the trail and report problems that need attention. At the end of our three-year grant, we expect to fill all our numbers with growth in services to veterans, health and wellness, and nutrition. The cncs federal investment of $102,698 will be supplemented by $59,527 from other sources.
