Description

As the council on aging, friendship centers of emmet county (fcec) serves as the county's focal point for issues related to aging. The organization's mission is to ensure that all senior citizens have the opportunities, information and services necessary to live healthy, safe and active lives in dignity. This is accomplished by providing vital services for senior citizens age 60 and over. Rsvp is the only fcec program that extends its scope beyond emmet county. Our partnership with the charlevoix county commission on aging has been effective in allowing US to promote and offer volunteer opportunities to seniors in both counties. Both organizations have found rsvp to be a critical component of their overall programming, in that IT provides seniors with a vital means of staying engaged and active in their communities. An estimated 115 unduplicated rsvp volunteers will serve. Some of their activities will include medicare counseling, assistance at food pantries, and providing tax services to low income seniors. The primary focus area for this project is healthy futures. At the end of the three-year grant, the anticipated outcome will be 380 unduplicated family groups receiving nutrition information and food. The cncs federal investment of $0 will be supplemented by $87,182 in non-federal resources.
