The Hudson Partnership Care Management Organization (CMO) will receive $340,000 under a Project Grant award from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The funding will support enhancement of the CMO's mentoring program for at-risk youth in five Jersey City schools from March 15, 2022 to September 30, 2023. Specialized mentors will work with school personnel to identify youth exhibiting behaviors that could lead to involvement in the criminal justice system or deeper involvement for those already engaged. Mentors will assist in referring youth to care management services and link participants to engagement activities. The award is provided through the Congressionally Recommended Awards program under the Criminal Justice Assistance category (CFDA 16.753) to improve juvenile justice system functioning and prevent delinquency.
Description
In five jersey city schools, specialized mentors will work with school personnel to identify youth who present with behaviors or challenges that may increase the likelihood of them entering the justice system or becoming more deeply involved in the system, and with youth who are currently on probation or who are presently detained but are expected to return to the community. When appropriate, mentors will assist caregivers with referrals to care management services for youth who are in need of clinical services and supports.
