Description

Federal funding is requested to establish a real time crime center (rtcc). The goal of this project is to support technology enhancements aligned with organizational strategic priorities and assessment recommendations to further enhance wpds capacity to combat violent crime. The objectives of this proposal are as follows: (1) establish a new program to prevent and respond to crime, especially violent crime, by addressing the PSP technology assessment recommendations, specifically the real time crime center and crime analysis/support recommendations. (2) invest in technology to support the analysis of intelligence and data in innovative ways that enable identification of criminal case leads and violent criminal activity, focusing resources on people and places associated with high concentrations of crime. (3) continue enhancing training for crime analysts to support violent crime reduction. Wichitas rtcc (phase i) project intends to launch a comprehensive crime intelligence initiative through this project. Phase i will establish a basic, operationally functional rtcc in the WPD with existing officers, analysts, and staff. Phase II will be completed in 2 years in coordination with wichita state university (WSU) by leveraging multiple funding sources in a complementary manner to integrate the rtcc with the WSU innovation campus and fully integrate the function with wichitas regional crime gun intelligence center (cgic), the national integrated ballistic information network (nibin) firearms tracking and the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives (ATF) nibin enforcement support system (ness), and wpds law enforcement training center. The WPD serves the city of wichita, but the rtcc will serve all of sedgwick county, extending regionally as an information and intelligence source. This is an excellent opportunity to give the citizens of wichita a state-of-the-art crime center at a relatively low cost due to the existing relationships and partnerships.
