Expected outcomes include reduced wait times, increased graduation rates, reduced recidivism, and the ability to serve 50 participants, up from the current 30. Description
The tulalip health and wellness court proposes to implement the category 2, priorities a and b enhancing tulalip healing to wellness court program to enhance capacity for the healing to wellness court (HWC), part of a joint courts system that also includes family treatment court. This court serves those who live on the tulalip reservation in snohomish county, washington, and tribal members living off reservation and their children. Project activities include hiring two key staff members, a part-time wellness alumni cultural specialist and a full-time substance use disorder professional, which will allow US to increase capacity and create an alumni support program where those who have succeeded in getting sober with HWC support those new to the program. Alums would be offered a stipend for their work, trained on mentorship, and provided with a food per diem, gas and travel expenses, and activity allocations so that they can engage with clients during meals and other leisure activities. They would host alumni/client matching events and activities for the pairs and would complete evaluation/assessment activities for the program. Expected outcomes include a reduction in wait times for beginning HWC, increased graduation rates, reduced recidivism, reduced instances of drug overuse and fatality, and the ability for the court to serve 50 participants (compared to the 30 we can currently serve). The intended beneficiaries of the project are tribal members, their children, and reservation residents with convictions related to substance abuse. There are no subrecipients for this project. The tribe requested $999,784 to hire staff that will allow US to increase capacity, and to offer stipends and training to alumni who will work with participants who are new to the program. Their jurisdiction has access to all types of mat services. We are an ndci mentor court and incorporate all nadcp 10 best practices in our operations. This program will expand on best practices for incentives, treatment, complementary treatment, the multidisciplinary team, and census and caseloads.
