About this award
The City and County of Denver received a $799,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance (CFDA 16.753 Congressionally Recommended Awards) to expand and sustain secondary prevention and intervention strategies for high-risk youth and adults in West, Central, and East Denver. The funding will be used to train community-based organizations in evidence-based, culturally responsive practices and to support a two-pronged approach integrating violence interruption/crisis response and individualized service provision. The project will focus on outreaching to individuals most likely to experience violence, responding to violent incidents and conflicts in the community, and aligning with national violence intervention models. The City and County of Denver will collaborate with various local initiatives and partners to implement the community-based violence intervention program.
Description
The office of community violence solutions (ocvs) and public safety youth programs (psyp) will partner to expand and sustain existing secondary prevention and intervention strategies for high-risk youth (runaway youth, gang-involved, justice-involved, high-risk victims) and adults. Utilizing a two-pronged approach that integrates violence interruption/crisis response and individualized service provision, this project will focus on outreaching to individuals most likely to experience violence. To support the individualized service provision component, funding will be used to train community-based organizations (cbos) in culturally responsive evidence-based practices. A primary focus will be on responding to violent incidents and conflicts in the community. Existing efforts are split into three regions: west denver, central denver, and east denver. Our proposal seeks to align with the fidelity of national models by concentrating programming on smaller target areas, adding to the multi-agency/alternative responses team approach, and advancing support for dpds violent crime hot spots (8) initiative. The community-based violence intervention program will collaborate with city-wide initiatives, such as the gang reduction initiative of denver (grid), denvers youth violence prevention action table, the aurora/denver youth violence prevention regional compact, the denver anti-trafficking alliance (data), and the runaway outreach notification and intervention (roni) project.
