Description

BJA/b-sobr grant proposal abstract launched in 2011, the beaverton sobriety opportunity for beginning recovery (b-sobr) program assists repeat duii offenders in overcoming the obstacle of alcohol and drug addictions. The b-sobr program is operated in accordance with nadcp's adult drug court best practice standards, ncdc's ten guiding principles of DWI courts, and BJA's drug court key components. We are requesting funding to enhance our program with an evidence-based initial assessment screening tool, evidence-based workbooks for treatment, other participant support materials, provide transportation passes, mentors for participant support, financial assistance for housing, random drug screens, mobile monitoring for alcohol in phase 1 of program, limited team attendance at training conferences, a case management system, and a program evaluation. Despite the program's success, b-sobr's ongoing funding is uncertain, and IT may lead to a reduction of services that would dramatically affect b-sobr's capacity and effectiveness. B-sobr is currently funded by grants from the bureau of justice assistance (BJA) and the city of beaverton. Our current BJA funding is set to expire on december 31, 2022. This funding allows the program to dramatically lower the costs of drug screens to participants; have mobile monitoring device on participants in phase 1; help subsidize a part-time mentor; provide free monthly local mass transit passes; and cover team training costs. When BJA's funding expires, the program will have to dramatically increase the costs of drug screens that participants directly pay. IT will also dramatically limit what other services the program can offer to pay for participants.
