Description
This project will serve to prevent crime, improve the criminal justice system, provide victim services, and other related activities. The primary activities with this project include purchasing equipment and a vehicle to be used for frederick police department's mobile crisis team. The mobile crisis team is comprised of a police officer from frederick police department, mental health counselor from sheppard pratt, and EMS/paramedic from the frederick county department of fire and rescue services who respond in one vehicle to calls for service involving individuals suffering from mental illness, substance abuse, or other crisis within the city of frederick. The outcome of this project is to efficiently provide on-site crisis intervention, increase behavioral health referrals, and reduce arrests when responding to calls for service involving the aforementioned points: mental health, substance abuse, and other crisis situations. The mobile command vehicle serves several purposes for the frederick police department. The two primary purposes are command operations on critical incident scenes and crisis negotiation team operations on critical incident scenes. Often, these incidents require both the command operations use and the crisis negotiation team use. The funding from this grant will be used to retrofit the current systems in place within the command unit vehicle. The systems in place are all very outdated and not useable with modern technology. There are no beneficiaries or subrecipients for this award.
