About this award

The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women awarded $500,000 to Sahiyo U.S. Inc. on August 1, 2026, under the Culturally and Linguistically Specific Services Program (CFDA 16.016) to provide peer-led support groups, establish a digital storytelling workshop as a nontraditional healing modality, and train service providers in victim services, healthcare, and legal professions on polyvictimization and complex victim needs. The award funds a three-year project period ending July 31, 2029, with place of performance in Watertown, Massachusetts. The Culturally and Linguistically Specific Services Program supports maintenance and replication of existing successful community-based programs delivering culturally specific services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, as well as development of innovative culturally specific strategies to enhance access for victims facing obstacles to traditional programs.

Description

This program supports the maintenance and replication of existing successful community-based programs providing culturally specific services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, as well as the development of innovative culturally specific strategies to enhance access to services and resources for victims who face obstacles to using more traditional programs. Projects must address at least one of the program's statutory purpose areas. This project will provide peer-led support groups, establish a digital storytelling workshop consistent with promising practices in this area of nontraditional healing modalities, and train service providers in victim services, healthcare, and legal professions on issues related to polyvictimization, meaning when victims have experienced multiple forms of victimization and have complex needs as a result.
