About this award
The Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Program awarded the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, Inc., $244,601 on October 1, 2025, under the Public Safety Partnership and Community Policing Grants program (CFDA 16.710).
The award funds expansion of MACP's law enforcement accreditation program targeting small agencies with 0–99 sworn officers. Michigan has approximately 77 percent of its law enforcement agencies in the smallest size categories (Level A and B: 0–25 sworn officers), yet only about 10 percent of agencies in these categories participate in MACP accreditation. The funding supports MACP staffing, compensation for assessors conducting on-site accreditation assessments, travel expenses, mini-grants to individual agencies, and training and awareness activities designed to encourage participation among small and mid-sized departments that lack resources to pursue accreditation independently.
Performance occurs in Okemos, Michigan, with a period of performance running through September 30, 2027. MACP is implementing this work as a direct prime recipient with no identified sub-recipients.
Description
Although there has been a significant rate of growth throughout the michigan association of chiefs of police (macp) accreditation program, there is still a deficiency in small sizes agencies within level a & b (0-10, 11-25). Levels a and b have a cumulative participation of approximately 10% but represent 77% of the agencies in the state. Project will support macp staffing, compensation for assessors to conduct on-site assessments to encourage participation, travel, mini-grants for agencies, and training/awareness activities for the program. Will allow macp to expand the assistance of level a & b (0-10, 11-25) agencies, to include level c (26-99 sworn) agencies that may not be able to participate without funding assistance.
