Performance occurs in Clemson, South Carolina. The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2027. Description

The clemson university police department FY 25 law enforcement mental health and wellness act program supports training for officers in the areas of stress management, sleep and recovery, burnout, nutrition, compassion fatigue, mobility and mindfulness. Through the delivery of multi-faceted in-person training programs and virtual health and wellness application resources this program enhances health and wellness initiatives along with peer support systems to improve public safety responder physical and emotional wellbeing thereby enhancing the delivery of effective public service and emergency response to the service community and improving outcomes for both responder longevity and career success. This approach to enhancing health and wellness systems will involve conducting two, two-day health and wellness workshops conducted by human performance and mental health professionals focusing on a range of wellness practices designed to enhance mental wellbeing and physical health. Focus areas include understanding the importance of sleep and recovery in the law enforcement work cycle, stress management through mindfulness practices and regulation, nutrition guidance and fundamentals of micronutrients and macronutrients, caloric intake, and healthy and realistic meal planning. Additionally, training will examine and understanding the factors contributing to officer burnout, emotional exhaustion and depersonalization along with supporting psychological needs to mitigate these issues. As a companion to the in-person workshops, this program seeks to establish access to digital wellness support services through a virtual training application. Utilizing this service in the second year of this program will extend officer access to a mobile health and wellness application for an additional year, bridging the GAP between conclusion of the formal programmatic period into the next planning cycle, allowing the agency to implement continuation plans for internal budgeting.
