Description

While our district has been working collaboratively with fairleigh dickinson university to enhance school climate and student behavior, our physical safety requirements have become increasingly urgent. As our district expands and experiences a significant growth in student enrollment, IT has become imperative to upgrade existing facilities and ensure the implementation of advanced security measures. To accommodate the growing student population, our district has recently passed a referendum to renovate facilities, including the construction of a new career & technical education building and a special education 18-21 building. This expansion necessitates immediate security upgrades in both existing and new buildings. This grant proposal aims to address these requirements by implementing a range of systems designed to prevent security issues and provide schools with effective countermeasures for swift response in the event of a security incident. The primary objectives of this project include: one-button lockdown notification system with automated police notification: we plan to install a state-of-the-art system that enables schools to initiate lockdown procedures swiftly and automatically alert local law enforcement, enhancing response time during emergencies. Wooden and broken door replacement: by replacing outdated and damaged doors, we will improve the physical integrity of our facilities, reducing vulnerabilities and enhancing security. Hand-held long-range radios: equipping school staff with reliable, long-range radios will facilitate effective communication during critical situations, ensuring a coordinated response. Surveillance cameras: we propose the installation of an expanded surveillance camera network to enhance situational awareness, deter potential threats, and aid in investigations when necessary. Secure vestibule access control technologies: upgrading our entry points with access control systems will provide an additional layer of security, ensuring that only authorized individuals can enter the premises. By implementing these physical safety upgrades, we aim to significantly improve our overall security posture and bolster the effectiveness of our comprehensive school safety framework.
