Description

The SPD accreditation project will address the public safety need of guaranteeing that our agency is using best practice standards for law enforcement as we provide service to the citizens and visitors in the city of stockbridge. Maintaining gacp accreditation standards acknowledges that SPD is implementing policies and procedures that are sound and operationally effective. In addition, accreditation aids with proving agency-focused professionalism, transparency, ethics, community-support initiatives, and safeguards liability protection. The stockbridge police department is a new agency that officially launched on july 1, 2022, and the accreditation process is in its infancy stages. On JAN. 2022, SPD signed a contract with the gacp to participate in the georgia law enforcement certification program (glecp) initiating the accreditation process. SPD has (three years) until 1/10/2025 to complete the certification process. The glecp certification process consists of eight steps. They are the assessing of spds commitment, application process, developing policies and procedures, on-site assessment, state certification committee review, joint committee review, award presentation, and maintaining compliance. The key personnel are the project coordinator, grant administrator, and certification manager (TBA). Funding will be used to advance spds progress toward achieving accreditation in the following ways: an accreditation coordinator will be hired to assist with managing the day-to-day accreditation operations of the SPD accreditation project; state certification fees will be paid based on our agency size; the fee for the mock assessment team leader and two assessors will be paid; the fee for the actual assessment, to include the team leader and two assessors will be paid; and SPD accreditation project coordinators and/or administrators will be able to attend the calea conference and/or other training to enhance skills and identify best practices.
