Description
The rhode island law enforcement accreditation program was formally established through the rhode island police chiefs associations, in 2012 as a private, non-profit organization and is overseen by the rhode island police accreditation commission, ripac. What sets rhode island apart from the other state accreditation programs is the fact that every sworn law enforcement agency in the state is participating in our accreditation program. Unfortunately, for six of our smaller agencies, completing the self-assessment phase which includes the review/revision and development of policies and protocols necessary to meet compliance with accreditation standards has proven to be a significant challenge. The RI police accreditation commission is seeking funding that would allow US to have our most qualified and experienced assessors work with these agencies providing training, guidance and technical support to ensure they understand the accreditation program, implement a system to comply with the required protocols and ensure they are prepared for a formal assessment to attain accreditation.
