Description
Accreditation is a self-initiated, voluntary process based on national standards which are reflective of best practices in law enforcement. The primary focus for community policing within any agency is about forming and maintaining impactful, lasting relationships between residents, law enforcement partners, local businesses, and community stakeholders. A well-established accreditation program embodies the overall principles of community-oriented policing, while creating a platform for an agency and its citizens to work together in crime-prevention efforts, and in addressing quality of life issues that may impact overall safety within a community. Accreditation also establishes clear direction about community expectations, while providing all citizens a voice and ability to interact with an agency. By enhancing and maintaining accreditation, agencies ultimately meet that public safety need by providing the most professional, accountable, and community-oriented law enforcement service to their communities. Consistent with the intent of accreditation, outreach strategies are imperative to attract agencies into this newly established program. The new hampshire law enforcement accreditation commission has been, and will continue to be, proactive in continued outreach, involving the use of various social media sites, media publications and news outlets, and utilize the state-wide law enforcement database platforms for continued outreach among agencies. The new hampshire law enforcement accreditation commission's goal is to ensure a high level of participation in the new hampshire law enforcement accreditation program. In addition, the program will remain affordable and relevant to agencies of all sizes, especially those who might otherwise lack the necessary resources and budgetary funds to pursue accreditation through a national-level program. By enabling accessibility to all agencies, regardless of size, the program will continue to ensure accountability and transparency, and strengthen public confidence and trust in policing in communities across the state of new hampshire.
